Frequently asked questions

What waiver programs are available in Minnesota?
Minnesota offers several waiver programs including EW (Elderly Waiver) for adults 65+, CADI (Community Access for Disability Inclusion), DD (Developmental Disabilities) waiver, CAC (Community Alternative Care), BI (Brain Injury) waiver, and others. Each program serves a specific population and covers different services. Your county assessor can determine which program fits your situation.
Is there a cost for waiver services?
Waiver services are covered through Medical Assistance, so there is typically no out-of-pocket cost. Some individuals may have a small monthly spend-down depending on their income, but the services themselves are covered. We can help you understand your specific financial situation.
How long does the waiver application process take?
The timeline varies by county and waiver program. Some assessments can be completed within a few weeks, while others may take longer. Once approved, services can begin relatively quickly. We recommend starting the process as soon as you think you might need services.
Can I choose my own provider with a waiver?
Yes. Minnesota's waiver programs give you the right to choose your service provider. You are not assigned to a provider. If you want to receive services from We Care Home Health MN, simply let your case manager know, and they can include us in your service plan.
What happens if my needs change after I am on a waiver?
Waiver plans are reviewed and updated regularly, typically at least annually. If your needs change before the next review, you or your case manager can request a reassessment. Services can be adjusted, added, or reduced based on your current situation.
